| I just found out yesterday that a very good friend of mine suffered a terrible fall this past weekend and is in the ICU with very serious injuries to her neck and spine. Her family has created a website to keep us all updated and upon reading it today, I found out that she has a tear in one of her arteries that is causing "mini-strokes." She was supposed to have her final surgery today, but it is being postponed until the tear heals. She can't feel her legs and is just now regaining the use of her hands. She has a tube in her throat, so she cannot speak, so I don't think anyone is 100 percent sure how she hurt herself, as she was found unconscious. It is very painful to be so far away (she's in NYC), but I'm hoping to get up to see her once I get back to the east coast next week. Her family is asking for everyone's prayers, and my Carey family has always been there to lift up the ones I love, so I'm asking you to do it again. Please keep Nicole and her family in your prayers through this very tough time. On a positive note, I am glad to hear everyone is doing fine after Gustav. I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it through to see y'all, but hopefully once I get back from this fall tour, I can make it down. Much love to you all! xx | | |
| Just thought I'd let everyone know that there was a new addition to our extended Carey family recently. On July 18th, Scott and Abbey (Lee) Nash welcomed their second daughter, Charlotte Grace Nash. They sent me a text the next morning with her picture - she's adorable! Abbey and Charlotte are doing well. I'm hoping to get back to Philly once I'm in New England this fall and will hopefully have pictures to post. xx | | |
| I hope the holidays were as wonderful for all of you as they were for me. John's flight out of Afghanistan kept getting delayed, but he finally flew out on Christmas Eve. Christopher was supposed to have left around the same time. After a few delays, John called at 4am the day after Christmas to tell us he was on his way to Atlanta and would catch the first flight to Memphis. It had been a couple of days at this point (it was Christmas Eve overseas when John first called), and we had heard from John, but not Christopher - we were getting more and more worried. John landed in Atlanta and called to see if we'd heard from Christopher, but we had not. A short time later, he called to give us his flight information and asked my father if there was any news from Chris,"No, John," my father said,"we still haven't heard from Christopher." To which John replied,"Would you like to talk to him?"
John was sitting at the gate waiting for his plane home, when Christopher came walking up, having been sent to the same gate when he arrived in Atlanta and asked for the next available flight to Memphis. My parents and I, along with some friends of the family, went to the airport to await their arrival. There were many tears of joy and long hugs. John is still in Memphis, as he does not have to report back to VA Beach until the end of the month. He's coming up to STL next weekend to see my show, and I couldn't be more excited. Christopher, however, was only home on a furlough, and is on his way back to Iraq as we speak.
For those of you who keep them in your prayers, I can't thank you enough. I know some of you have inquired about sending letters. If you'd like Christopher's address, just let me know, and I'll send it to you. I know most of you have never met him, but trust me - just knowing there are people who think about them and hope for their safe and speedy return helps them make it through. I know letters mean the world to Christopher, and I even sent holiday cards to a hospital for wounded soldiers. I've had people look at me like I'm crazy when I ask them to sign a birthday card or a holiday card, and I know some people may think that crosses into lines of politics concerning the war and our soldiers, but I just don't care.
As soon as I can find my usb cable, I'll post some pictures. I'm hoping to not have to work while I'm back in Memphis next month while I wait to start the new job, so perhaps a trip back down to Hattiesburg will be in order. I would love to see you all - it's been too long. xx

| My brother John is officially out of Iraq! He is currently in Kuwait finishing paperwork, and is hoping to be home for Christmas. We haven't heard from Christopher yet, but he should also be home for Christmas. Unfortunately, he will have to return to Iraq to finish his tour after the holidays are over. I haven't seen John since March, and emails were few and far between, and I only spoke to him once on the phone. Communication wasn't very easy where he was stationed. Christopher tries to call once a month if not more (as he has access to a satellite phone), and I was lucky enough to talk to him on Sunday. We chatted about everything and nothing, and it was good to hear him laugh. I want to thank each and every one of you who have kept them, along with all our other men and women overseas, in your thoughts and prayers. And I promise, they thank you as well. If you have a minute, do a google search for a website called "Let's Give Thanks."
I want to shout it from the rooftops - MY BROTHERS ARE COMING HOME!!!

| "Well the time now has come, and the road has begun to move beneath my feet." -Amos Lee
As most of you may know, about a month ago I interviewed for a stage management position with a traveling theatre company, FoodPlay Productions. Well, a couple weeks ago, I found out I got the job. I'll be leaving St. Louis the first week of February and moving all my things back to Memphis. I'll take a couple weeks off and then I fly to Hatfield, Massachusettes (where the company is based) for a 3-week rehearsal. From there, myself and the two actors will be doing a tour that goes down the east coast, to the southeast, and as far west as Texas. I don't know any specific cities and dates yet, but the tour will be over at the end of June.
I'm so excited - traveling and theatre. Sure, I did that with the cruise ship, but this time I'll actually be going to different places all of the time! It will be quite an experience, but I'm hoping this will really start up my stage management career. Luckily, since I don't have to leave for another couple months, I am still able to perform in the show here in St. Louis. Rehearsals start this evening. I feel bad - I haven't really looked over the script much at all. I didn't do it as much at Carey as I should have either, but we rehearsed scenes so many times that I had my lines down by the time the evening was over. Our rehearsal period for this show is quite condensed (although it's really a one-act, so it's not too bad). It's been so long... I'm not feeling as motivated as I should. I'm so ready to start this new job, everything else seems to lag behind. Time will fly, though, and before I know it, I'll be packing up my car yet again.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and I wish you all the happiest holidays!
